This information is to notify you of how I will be teaching my Social Studies and AVID Elective classes. I am an Impact Venture Technology Teacher and has embraced a new way of student access to education called Blended Learning in a Flipped Classroom environment. It is my goal to equip students with college and career readiness skills for a competitive global society. This method will better prepare them for advanced learning and helping them to meet future college and military goals. In addition, it gives them an advantage in any work-related career.
The theory behind a blended or flipped classroom is simple. Students will not sit passively in their desks at school waiting to be filled with knowledge by a teacher. Instead the lectures will be the form of webinars, podcasts, etc. Students will watch these lectures as homework if possible and during class instructional time, and they can play and rewind them enough times (and at their own schedule) to have a deeper understanding of the concepts. Then when they come to class or during the lesson in class they will have the basic knowledge to employ those concepts in a project based manner working cooperatively with their classmates to solve issues, to construct project based learning opportunities, etc. More-so, representing Blended Learning because your student will be receiving, “Old-School” and “New-School” type of instruction tailored made in an effort to meet the need of ALL learners in the same classroom setting.
